Surprising week

A bicycle crash. One week no mopp c. One night in Lentor. Two surprise messages.

9 Dec. On leave. Was travelling towards TM. Century Square walkway, barriers erected to prevent motorcycles from entering, but just nice for bicycles. I reckoned that it's difficult to aim my bicycle through those barriers, unless i walk my bicycle through them. Hence, i decided to detour, travelling by the road before re-entering the walkway by the next pedestrain crossing. Yet, this proved to be a bad decision.

I thought that moving from the road onto the walkway was just like changing lanes on the road. Move smoothly across the lanes; try to be parallel in movement, don't poke your vehicle's head out into the next lane. This was exactly how i approached the walkway with my bike. Bang! The walkway seemingly rejected my bike's advance and pushed it aside. Somehow, my bicycle flipped onto its side and my left patella was dragged along the walkway, which eventually brought my bike to a halt.

Luckily, my bicycle was thrown onto the walkway, not the road. There wasn't speeding on my part as well. Phew........Blood of course flowed slowly down towards my left foot. Looks serious, but being the elite of the Medical Corps, I know that I'm fine overall, and this is just, at most, a 0.1% 3rd degree burn (the doctor simply called it "abrasion"). Shortly after making sure my bike suffered no damage, I pushed the bike along and continued to complete the objectives of my trip. Along the way, I bought Melolin and gauze to apply first aid myself. $5 for 5 pieces of Melolin? I didn't know my store was worth so much.

This is my first crash after buying my first bicycle. I was prepared. Got to happen one of these days. I'm not a skilled, or trained cyclist after all. Got one week's excuse blahblah from MO (my longest so far)...... In the end, had to stand in for my MT spec to go on spec II field camp, so the excuse didn't allow me to relax as much as I wanted....Sometimes, or must i say, most of the times, life doesn't happen the way you want it to.

Surprises are what makes life interesting, but it's whether you enjoy it or not. First surprise was a reply from my friend, who's currently in UK; takes ages to reply, always. Usually 2-3 weeks, longer than that means "forget it". It was one of those "Forget it" times, but this time there was a reply. Funny ah, shldn't bother with this kinda friend ya?? Haha we were "tablemates" and I'm just very happy to receive a reply i guess ya.......

Second surprise was today. I had earlier typed in on MSN, 'omg how did i crash......so embarassing...." I had another friend in the States. I hadn't heard anything from this friend for 4 years i guess. Bang! Suddenly this friend msg me on MSN, on what i crashed. Thought i crashed my tank or what.......!@#$%^ We chatted for a while, then "user offline".. I know i'm boring =P but there are better ways to end a chat ya? We haven't been on talking terms for some time, but we had been classmates so i can chat anytime with thee. But this encounter has set me thinking, "Is this person gonna talk to me only when i'm seriously hurt, injured, dead?" I just can't figure some people out........ Maybe this person thought i had been exaggerating in my MSN headline, and was greatly disgusted? Nv my intention.......... Friends shld know better i guess.
